Ever since the quirky Flight of the Conchords series appeared on HBO, people have been telling my husband that he looks like Jermaine Clement, the sideburned, black glasses-wearing, taller of the two musicians/comedians.
Skye hadn’t told me that he’s been receiving these comments from people everywhere he goes. He kept that unflattering observation to himself and sprung it on me after luring me into the mancave to watch the comedy that is woven around the theme of culture class, as two Napoleon Dynamite-ish New Zealanders try to get their band off the ground in New York City.
I’d finally gotten it out of my head how much Skye reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite. So it makes sense now why he waited for the right moment to spring it on me that this wacky nerd I’ve been laughing at, as opposed to with, has a remarkable resemblance to the guy I sleep with every night. He was waiting for me to notice without being told, the way I waited for a week to go by before I finally brought his attention to the changes I made in our bedroom at a previous house. I tore down the outdated wallpaper and painted our room sunset yellow. Sometimes the obvious is right in front of us and we just don’t see it.
Now I can’t get it out of my head how much Skye looks like Jermaine Clement. Yesterday, we went to Whole Foods and the cashier with the tats up and down both arms and the cultish Flight of the Conchords glasses asked my husband if he’d heard of the HBO show.
I said, “Nooooo! Don’t say it! I have to sleep with him tonight! Pullleeeze!”

I’m a huge F of Ch fan and I think Jermaine is a hunk, which means your hubby is, too. That business time song is my favorite. makes me laugh every single time, which makes my hubby say with a frown, “Hey!”
Unflattering observation? I have more than a small crush on Jermaine. He’s sexy. I like dorks, though. What can I say?
I’ll have to watch it so I can see what’s going on in the bedroom.
