Sacket’s Harbor for the History Buff

My nine-year old is a history buff.  He loves all things military.  All his artwork at school is detailed drawings of battle scenes, stick figures dropping from planes while being shot at by enemy on the ground.  There’s lots of smoke and fire.  His teacher tried to hide her concern.  I tried to hide my amusement.  He is his Uncle Rob all over again.  Rob does WWII re-enactment and even has a German WWII jeep in his garage that he cranked up so he could take Vincent for a ride around his neighborhood in Oregon.  That was the bomb!  Pardon the expression.

We took Vincent to Sacket’s Harbor in the 1000 Islands because we couldn’t get into Canada to see Fort Henry, his first choice, without his birth certificate.  I even tried to sweet talk some border patrol officers at the-coffee-shop-that-has-no-wifi but they said it’s the Canadian side that won’t let us in.  The American side would.  That makes me feel safe??

Vincent is my kinda guy. I had 6 Civil War battlefields on my “been there” list by the time I was 10!

Only you would think you could talk your way into getting your kids into Canada without a passport!?! Mind over matter baby! Good try!
